painting might be just what you’re looking for.
The first thing you need to do is to look for any holes or cracks in the
wall you're planning to sponge paint. Any cracks and holes found need
to be repaired. The cracks and holes can be repaired by putting some joint
compound on the wall in a thin layer. After the joint compound dries you
have to sand it until it's smooth. This process may need to be done over
a few times. You will then need to paint the wall with a layer of paint
primer. After the paint primer dries you can proceed to paint the wall
with the color of paint you chose to be the main color. The paint will
need to be completely dry before you begin to sponge paint the wall.
Make sure you cover up the floor and furniture inside the room you are
planning to sponge paint because this will prevent any paint from getting
on the floor and furniture. If you are only planning to sponge paint one
wall in the room your decorating you will need to put masking tape in
the corners of the walls of the room not being sponge painted. Masking
tape should also be put on any trim you have that is in the room.
Before you can start sponge painting you will need to go and purchase
a sea sponge. A sea sponge can be purchased at a craft or hardware store.
To start sponge painting you will need to wet the sponge with water. Make
sure that you squeeze out all the excess water in the sponge. Pour the
paint you’re going to sponge paint with into a container. Be sure
that the container is large enough to dip the sponge into it.
Proceed by dipping the sponge into the paint container. You should dip
the sponge about one inch into the container. You need to scrape off any
excess paint that’s on the sponge.
Press the sponge onto a newspaper to remove any extra paint that’s
on the sponge. This will help prevent any paint blobs from being put onto
the wall you are sponge painting.
You should first practice sponge painting before you begin sponge painting
on your wall. You should practice until you’re familiar with the
sponge painting technique to prevent any flaws on the actual wall you
are sponge painting.
To start sponge painting on the wall you need to press the paint dipped
sponge into the wall. As you are applying the sponge to the wall you need
to pull the sponge back as you are doing this you need to continue to
keep turning your hand slowly in a circular motion while continuing to
press the sponge down with your hand. Continue to follow this step throughout
the wall. This will eventually form a pattern on the wall.
To be successful at sponge painting the thing to remember is to take your
time. Rushing will only result in the paint running and blobs on your
wall.
When your sponge starts to dry out you will need to redip the sponge.
Then you can proceed making the sponge paint pattern on the wall.
When touching up any sponge painting flaws there are steps to follow.
For any faint colored paint that’s on the wall you will need to
responge these areas. If you end up with any blobs on your wall you will
need to repaint over this area with the main paint using a small brush.
Let it dry completely before responging the wall.
